MK adds sparkle to the annual BCSC Scottish Dinner

Kelvingrove Art Gallery in Glasgow was the venue for the annual BCSC Scottish Dinner held on Thursday 19th February 2015.  MK Illumination UK were a key sponsor for this inaugural event attended by 430 senior managers and a host of service providers to the Shopping Centre Industry.

MK Illumination decorated the venue bringing a touch of elegance to the evening.  The tables were decorated with beautiful vases filled with sparkling baubles and crystal garland tying in with the colour scheme for the event.  Modern metal cone tree’s were lit in conjunction with the theme of the evening to add a touch of sparkle making for a great evening had by all.  We already look forward to next years event.

Traditional theme developed for Germany’s Hanau Christmas Display

MK Illumination drew on a well known traditional theme when designing festive lighting on behalf of the Municipality of Hanau and the Hanau Marketing GmhH. The town, situated south of Frankfurt, was decorated with delicately illuminated large advent wreaths, with the four traditional candles mounted on 50 special masts in the town’s shopping precinct. To continue the ‘wreath’ theme, colourful hanging Christmas garlands were used to line the main street.

The 2014 festive season was the first year that MK Illumination had engaged with this new client and an expansion of the concept is planned for the coming season. MK Illumination also reported that representatives of both the Stadt Hanau and Hanau Marketing GmbH showed great engagement and enthusiasm for the project.

Christmas Magic in Woking

MK Illumination UK brought the magic of Christmas morning to life at the Woking Shopping Centre during the 2014 festive season.

The shopping centre team’s brief was very simple ‘create the emotion of Christmas morning for our customers’.  This was executed through bespoke motifs and a bright primary colour palate creating an eye catching display. Large oversized presents were suspended from the centre’s central atrium creating a colourful sense of gift giving whilst scaled down versions and other bespoke elements were installed throughout the mall to create a flow of decorations.

Day and night time appeal were both covered  with a mixture of intelligent lighting and decorative installations providing the customers with a great backdrop for photos whilst in centre.  The display is the first year of a three year deal and one the centre team are very happy to recreate for 2015.

Exploring creative possibilities with new materials

MK Illumination is continually exploring the possibility of using new materials to expand the creative potential of its creative lighting and to surprise and delight its customers.
“Innovative materials are central to MK Illumination’s design process,” says Klaus Mark, CEO of MK Illumination.

The latest material in the spotlight is a new ‘knit fabric’. Wool-like in appearance and developed and ‘knitted’ in Austria, this is a material that speaks of traditional handcrafts. The ‘knit’ fabric, in a range of colors, allows soft and atmospheric light to shine through. This makes it a natural partner for extraordinary lighting designs that help to express the warmth of Christmas.

To illustrate the versatility of this new creative material, MK has designed a range of lounge seating, accompanied by lamps with knit fabric in two distinct stitch designs. The lounge-lamp combination is ideally suited to add warmth and festive atmosphere to shopping centers. MK Illumination first presented this winning combination of creative lighting and cozy handcrafted material at Christmasworld in Frankfurt.
