Every year, MK Illumination, along with its regional partners, make a creative trip around the Tyrolean hostelries to bring the festive Christmas atmosphere into each large and small concern that wants to create an Austrian hospitality experience for all the senses.
From the Zillertal to Serfaus and from Kitzbühel to Obergurgl, entrances, driveways, facades, roof gables and winter gardens are decorated with fairy lights and custom-made light motifs – from modern to traditional – that are individually tailored to suit the hotel’s own ambience.
The strategy of Jernhusen, Stockholm’s Central Station, is to present a grand entrance to the city. And since Stockholm has become the Nordic Christmas capital attracting many visitors, it was quite natural to ensure that the experience began at the station. MK Illumination’s concept celebrated the unique, historical building. The 18m high vaulted ceilings were accentuated by classical garlands with warm white light points, creating a calm Christmas spirit in a bustling, busy environment.
The “Traditional American Christmas” was the inspiration for the decorations in “K in Lautern”, in Kaiserslauten, where around 50,000 US military personnel are stationed. The centrally located shopping centre with a varied range of stores and shopping offer dominates the expansive architecture of the pedestrian precinct, making it an attraction and a popular location in the city for friendship and cultural exchange.
Giant red and white candy canes above the entrance and on the landings set the tone for the refreshing atmosphere of the creatively staged lighting and decoration for a real American Christmas. Illuminated candy canes and fibreglass balls complimented the gigantic Christmas wreath and the festively decorated fir trees. The “K in Lautern” was given very special seasonal charm through the clever mix of classically elegant and humorous modern design concepts for its traditional green garlands and trees.
“Experience is everything” – was the motto of ReCon, the international congress of the International Council of Shopping Centres (ICSC) from May 22-25 in Las Vegas, Nevada. Around 36,000 executives from all over the world and 1,200 exhibitors met together in the American gaming metropolis. Increased earnings through more shopping experiences was the credo of the congress. “Experience is everything” is what was clearly defined by the main players concerning the demands on the modern shopping center. Retail professionals now place increased emphasis on design, overall experience and quality of service, and at this point festive lighting takes on a high priority. In the USA, Christmas landmarks are big draw cards. Studies have shown that the feeling of wellbeing amongst consumers greatly increases in the festive season. “This enormous popularity seems to be an indicator for a growing retail landscape,” said CSC President and CEO Tom McGee.
MK Illumination put on a display of interactive animal stories in a winter landscape setting and in doing so, the Tyroleans touched the hearts of the sector’s specialist international guests. Even from a distance, the larger than life, glittering elk on the 1200 square meter stand was a real attraction.
