Lighting up Akmerkez Shopping Mall in Turkey

We at MK Illumination were pleased to have the opportunity to provide illuminating seasonal decorations to Istanbul’s Akmerkez Shopping Mall, one of the oldest and most prestigious shopping centers in Turkey.

The concept was designed to create a brilliant atmosphere in gold and silver toned products, in harmony with the mall’s overall architecture and ambience. The display focused on creating a warm family atmosphere in which to celebrate the season. Central to the design was the 12.5-meter Christmas tree with 10,300 Christmas balls, and 7,618 pieces of mirrored plexiglass in various motifs. In addition, the mall was decorated with 16,000-meters of crystal-embellished products, and 20,212-meters of string lights. This provided a dazzling almost 2.5 million light points, which in turn created an inviting and welcoming atmosphere for the center’s thousands of shoppers.

House for SOS Children’s Village in Nepal

MK Illumination is proud to be the sponsor of House Wilder Kaiser in the SOS Children’s Village in West Nepal’s Lumbini. The name of the house also reflects our own roots in the Austrian Tyrol.

House Wilder Kaiser is one of 12 houses in the village that opened its doors to orphaned children and those in difficult family circumstances in October 2010. Each house provides a home for 12 children and a resident ‘mother’ who helps provide a real family environment for her charges.

Our company has donated the entire costs of maintaining and running the house for the next five years, thus securing the future of the 12-child family for that period. At this stage we plan on continuing this support after this current period of commitment.

The SOS Children’s Village in Lumbini is located near the rapidly developing industrial city of Butawal. Additional support for the village and the children’s welfare comes from an associated program of mushroom farming that provides both vocational training and generates additional income for the project.

SOS Children’s Village is a worldwide charity, which, like our company, has its origins in the Austrian Tyrol. Hermann Gmeiner, a medical student, founded the first SOS Children’s Village in the immediate post WW2 period to provide homes for orphaned children and to support the children of families in difficult circumstances.

Easter Bunnies an Immediate Hit at „MyZeil”

Frankfurt’s MyZeil may have been inspired by the new look MK Illumination’s Stag motif presented at Christmasworld 2017, but it is our ‘all dressed up for Easter’ Bunnies that are proving a social media magnet at this, one of Germany’s prime shopping centers.

The appearance of seven Easter Bunnies ranging in height from two to 3.5 meters and strategically placed throughout this ultra-modern shopping center has been an immediate overnight hit. The motifs are naturally also the number one ‘photo op’ location for MyZeil shoppers and visitors.

The bunnies, one of the most loved Easter symbols come in avant-garde design and feature crystals and triangular-faceted, reflective aluminum and Plexiglas. As such, they are a direct reference to the center’s spectacular architecture, the work of renowned Italian architect and designer Massimiliano Fuksas.

Marcus Schwartz, MyZeil Center Manager, is more than impressed: “The classic Easter Bunnies in this ultra-modern presentation are not only a loving visual representation of the Easter tradition of gift-giving and surprises, they also create an exclusive connection to the avant-garde architecture of the building, and to our imposing glass roof.”

The MyZeil Easter motifs are also an example of how we at MK Illumination make every effort to find the appropriate local and cultural reference in our presentations in all the countries in which we operate.
