In planning for Christmas, cities, communities and shopping centres repeatedly ask questions about the benefits of festive decorative design: what can be done differently or better? How do visitors evaluate the designs? What expectations do they have?
A current visitor survey carried out by the GMA in several cities and shopping centres in December 2014 provides answers to these questions.
The reason for the visit and the relevance of a Christmas atmosphere to the visit were central to the survey:
- Over two-thirds of all visitors to cities and shopping centres at Christmas time come specifically to do their Christmas shopping or to visit the Christmas markets.
- A Christmas atmosphere with festive Christmas lighting is particularly important for visitors during the advent season.
- Over 85% of visitors are consciously aware of the Christmas lights on display.
